Conducting a thorough evaluation of a student's strengths and weaknesses enables
our team to create a powerful program for change. We emphasize the relationship between the student's behavioral needs and the IEP document, aligning our efforts with goals of the teaching staff and family.
Our methods of assessment include interviews, observations, environmental manipulations, questionnaires, or direct work with the student. We offer preliminary assessments of individual children that target both the reduction of challenging, maladaptive behaviors as well as the increase in skills targeted for acquisition:
All children with whom we work have skills and potential that have not been maximized. We know that each individual can be motivated to learn, so we carefully conduct a range of interview, observation, and inventory assessments to identify triggers, reinforcers, and maintaining consequences.
The product of this assessment is a detailed report that describes "why" behaviors are occurring. Our consultants provide the staff and family with an outline of Preliminary Behavioral Strategies to be implemented and recommend environmental changes that would reduce problem behaviors. The report also identifies skill deficits and outlines steps toward creation of a customized educational program.
This report is a valuable tool when considering treatment and service options. Such a comprehensive behavioral and curricular evaluation is invaluable in creating IEP goals and objectives.
We firmly believe in empirically driven programs and in the value of ongoing assessment in order to maximize student progress. We analyze data daily, weekly, and quarterly and utilize this important information to make treatment decisions.
